Machine Control: Flowcharting

Facebook is now a world wide way of communication. It has the ability to show posts and blogs that allow others to see what you may be doing, thinking or simply want to share. it's one of the easiest ways to plan events, since it also has an event planning app. Your information can be as private as you may want it to be or as public for the world to know. Posts are instant and show very little delay. Twitter, in the other hand has the same type of effect. It's less personal and shows less information. Twitter would me mostly the updates and the posts that facebook has. They are ways to join groups, keep in touch, inform updates and changes.

Facebook and tweeter were the technologies that facilitated the regime change we witnessed in Egypt today. Many protests in the Middle East chose to use these websites to tell when and where the protests and marches and rallies would be held. I feel like also because they were being informed that all these protests were being made, it gave the others the courage to begin their own protests. In a way, Twitter and Facebook united the Middle East to help against their own government. It's kind of like the power of multitude. It was something crazy and at the same time, kind of funny to see how something that would seem insignificant have such an effect on the world.

Content is King

Something i really like doing is volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club in Imperial Beach. I like spending time with them without having to because most of those kids' parents are too busy working or just dont want them at home to be with them. I like helping them enjoy a good day and helping with their home work.

Blogging is helpful to the Club because we [the volunteers] are able to communicate with the staff and learn about what is going on and what events are coming up at the club.

I see myself blogging with the Boys & Girl's Club because I will soon be a staff member and I'll have to know how to keep it up- to- date. I'm excited Mr. Olson has taught us blogging and has enforced it because it'll be beneficial in future occasions.

Team: Survival at Sea

For this activity Mr. Olson gave us a sheet of paper with a list of survival materials after a ship being lost at sea. He gave us time to number off from which we thought was the most important material to the least. Then he grouped us up and gave us time to discuss the value of the materials with them. After that we got together as a class and we saw how the official Coastguard had numbered them off and why.This activity was very interesting to me because it taught me how different my logic was compared to my team's. It revealed a lot of complications and a lot of reasoning and problem solving. Something that to me made complete sense of keeping was pretty useless for some of my team mates. We also realized that some of the things that were on there we didn't quite know how to use or would only be useful if we had its compliment. It was interesting because i've never really had a survival activity to help guide my decisions and my logic--pretty much i have no survival instinct. I hope this really helped for the future in case anything is to ever happen to me.

Team: Tennis balls

In this activity, Mr. Olson gave the challange of working with a team to create a way of passing a tennis ball in a faster way than the opposing team. The disadvantages to this was the close distance we were to the other team, therefore they'd take our ideas and in the competition they'd use our strategy against us.
For example, Joe came up with the idea of everyone sticking their hands out towards the center of our circle and every other person would have their hands facing up. The idea was to just move our hands side to side and to release the ball without having to throw it. This depended on how fast our reflexes were and how fast we could move our hands from side to side. It worked out pretty good because we were pretty fast at it.
Since the other team did the same thing, this proved who was a better and quicker team because we were not only creating a strategy but seeing who was better at the strategy we chose to use.
Next time we would probably stick with this same strategy but make up a 'fake' one that they could think we'd use but end up using the first idea so that they dont end up using the same idea we do.
It was a fun entertaintment and it's always nice to be outside a classroom. :)
